McLemore Avenue: Home
Sweet soul instrumental music has arrived...Texas Style.
McLemore Avenue--in the tradition of instrumental groups like Booker T. & the MGs, The Meters, Jimmy Smith, and Medeski, Martin and Wood--combines elements of southern soul, R & B, jazz and other genres with an original sound that is unique to Austin, Texas.
“Rooting themselves in southern soul, they've made a modern record that plays with the excitement and feel of discovering a Stax classic.”
"Interesting groove...sounds like the MGs meet the Ventures...I really like the guitar and especially like the B3 sound."
Most recently, McLemore Aveue had the honor of backing soul legend Swamp Dogg at the Continental Club during the internationally acclaimed 2007 South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
"These folks were wonderful, with a tremendous sound coming from their Hammond B3 organ and Swamp Dogg on electric piano stage center. I hated to tell them their time was up at the end of their showcase."
In 2006, the band had it's own SXSW showcase and was aired on NPR's All Songs Considered: Open Mic broadcast, which featured the track Me Gusta from the band's debut album, 926 East.
The band also appeared on the prestigous KUT 90.5 FM radio shows Eklektikos , hosted by John Aielli and LiveSet, hosted by Larry Monroe.
